Paying for therapy yourself

Psychotherapy without an application process.

At my practice in Berlin-Kreuzberg you can also pay for treatment yourself. As a self-payer, there is no application process with a health insurer. Depending on available capacity, treatment can begin soon, and no diagnosis is passed on to an insurer. We agree on start, length and frequency together, based on your concerns and within a protected setting.

Methods

Confidentiality

When you pay for treatment yourself, my practice does not bill your health insurer. Treatment is documented confidentially in accordance with legal and professional requirements.

Tailored to you

The frequency, length and scope of treatment follow your personal concerns and are agreed together.

per session · 50 minutes

Transparency matters to me: billing is directly with you, and the fee depends on the length of the session. We clarify the usual session frequency and other practical questions together in the first consultation. On a self-pay basis I offer, among other things, psychoanalysis, psychodynamic psychotherapy and couples therapy . If you have statutory health insurance, reimbursement (Kostenerstattung) may be possible under certain conditions; for private insurance and Beihilfe there is a separate overview.

Good to know

For people for whom discretion is particularly important, for example with regard to becoming a civil servant, a security clearance or taking out disability insurance, where a stored diagnosis could become relevant later. And for anyone who wants to start without waiting for a place covered by statutory insurance.

The frequency depends on your concerns and is agreed together in the first sessions.

Please cancel appointments at least 24 hours in advance. For later cancellations or missed appointments, the full session fee is charged, as the time was reserved for you.

Yes, you will receive an invoice for your records, which you can also submit to a supplementary private insurance if it partly covers psychotherapy.

Legally this is possible in principle, but in practice rarely worthwhile: the German tax office requires a certificate from a public health officer confirming the need for therapy, issued before treatment begins. That would usually run counter to the confidentiality of self-paid treatment. For a reliable assessment of your personal situation, I recommend consulting a tax adviser.

Whether paying for treatment yourself is an option for you can be clarified in a first consultation.
